After securing his first world title by defeating Shaun Murphy 10-6 at The Crucible, 22-year-old snooker champion Wu Yize emotionally revealed his plans to use his £500,000 prize money to purchase a house and take his parents on a travel adventure. Expressing his gratitude towards his parents, Wu emphasized their importance as his pillars of strength.
In an interview with SportsBoom, Wu shared, “Buy a house and take my parents travelling. There are many things I’d like to buy. My parents are the true champions. They are the source of my strength. I love them so much.” Despite having intentions for the money, Wu expressed his immediate desire to rest, stating, “I just want to have a good sleep. I was feeling the nerves throughout the full match, right now I just want to go to bed.”
Reflecting on the significance of his mother in his life, Wu highlighted her ongoing health struggles and immense support. He mentioned, “My mum wasn’t in very good health condition for a long time. During that time we were in Sheffield, she has been in hospital a lot. She is forever a source of strength to me.” Wu expressed his gratitude for his mother’s sacrifices and reiterated her importance in his life.
Jason Ferguson, chairman of snooker’s governing body, praised Wu’s remarkable journey to success, acknowledging the hardships faced by Wu and his family. Ferguson commended Wu for his outstanding performance and predicted a bright future for the young champion, stating, “Wu is really now entering that era of becoming a great where he can go on and win and win and win.”
