At least 17 individuals sustained injuries when a sightseeing train overturned in a Spanish town. The emergency response teams quickly arrived at Cartama, located approximately 10 miles from Malaga, in response to the incident that occurred shortly after 9:30 pm local time on Saturday.
Images from the scene depict the tourist train’s carriages overturned on Santo Cristo road. The cause of the incident remains unclear, with authorities confirming that the train flipped over while crossing.
Over a dozen people were injured, receiving immediate medical attention from emergency personnel. Four individuals, including three children, were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, with local officials stating that none of the injuries are severe.
Reports indicate that around 30 individuals were onboard the train at the time of the accident. Following the incident, the train service has been suspended for the weekend, and authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances.
The tourist train was part of an event called la Ruta de la Tapa y el Coctel, aimed at promoting exploration of various businesses in the city and sampling their offerings. This annual festival, running from June 10 to June 14, involves the train making stops at different venues, with tourists provided maps highlighting these locations.
Cartama is in close proximity to two popular destinations among British tourists – Malaga and the renowned resort town of Marbella.
