A 38-year-old married woman facing charges for groping a teenager has disclosed her shocking motive for the assault on a man almost two decades younger than her at a luxury hotel sauna.
The woman, originally from Ireland, admitted to the court that at the time of the incident, she was 37 and had inappropriately touched the 18-year-old in the sauna of the upscale Martinique Hotel in Magaluf because she felt sexually aroused.
Claiming she misunderstood the situation and believed the young man was reciprocating her alleged flirtation, the woman expressed regret for her actions, which led to her apprehension in handcuffs as the victim appeared visibly distressed.
The unnamed woman potentially faces a maximum of two years in prison for the assault on the Swedish adolescent, with prosecutors seeking a one-and-a-half-year jail sentence upon conviction, along with compensation of £440 for the reported trauma suffered by the victim. Additionally, authorities are pushing for a two-year ban on her contact with minors post-release and demand that she covers court expenses if found guilty.
Reports indicate that while vacationing with her husband, the woman initiated a conversation with the Swedish teenager in the hotel sauna on June 3, which allegedly progressed to her following him into the Turkish steam bath and engaging in unwanted sexual contact without his consent.
The victim claimed to have rejected her advances and promptly alerted hotel staff, resulting in the woman’s removal from the premises and subsequent transfer to police custody.
During her court appearance the following day, the woman confessed, “I got horny. I thought he was interested in me too, that we were flirting, I apologised right away. I was very embarrassed, I’m sorry.” After being released on bail, she returned to Ireland.
Her defense attorney, Joan Arbos, renowned in Palma, previously hinted at seeking the case’s dismissal, arguing that no criminal offense had occurred. Conversely, a Civil Guard spokesperson confirmed the arrest of the 37-year-old suspect for the alleged sexual assault on the Swedish man, emphasizing the victim’s distress upon their arrival at the scene and subsequent arrest of the accused party.
