A shocking incident was captured on camera as a tall residential building in Hong Kong went up in flames, with residents initially unaware of the impending disaster. Tragically, four individuals, including a firefighter, lost their lives in the fire that swept through multiple apartment blocks in the Chinese-administered area. Footage recorded by a bystander captured the early stages of the fire, showing a small flame emerging at the base of a scaffolding net. The video, shared on Threads by user striking_biking, shows local residents casually walking near Wang Fuk Court in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district, unaware of the growing blaze just meters away.
Subsequent clips reveal the fire escalating, engulfing the scaffold and emitting thick smoke. The intense blaze tore apart sections of the scaffolding, visible from a considerable distance. Wang Fuk Court, consisting of eight blocks and housing around 2,000 units, witnessed multiple fires on that fateful day.
Among the casualties, four individuals lost their lives, while seven others were rushed to hospitals for treatment. Two of the hospitalized individuals are in critical condition, with firefighters also sustaining injuries during their firefighting efforts. The fire department was alerted to the blaze at 2.51 pm local time, prompting the upgrade to a level 4 emergency by 3.34 pm.
Emergency measures were swiftly implemented, including the closure of a section of Tai Po highway and diversion of bus routes.
