England’s soccer team had to take cover due to a tornado warning in Kansas City on Saturday evening. The team had recently moved their camp from Miami to Kansas City in preparation for their upcoming match against Croatia, but their training schedule was disrupted by the severe weather alert.
Players were in the middle of an open training session when a notification was issued for the local area, warning of an imminent threat of severe thunderstorms with destructive 80 mph winds. The National Weather Service advised everyone to seek shelter in sturdy buildings away from windows to avoid potential hazards from flying debris.
The FIFA Fan Festival in Kansas City was closed early, and England’s training session at Swope Soccer Village was rescheduled to the late afternoon due to the weather conditions. The entire city area remained under a tornado watch until late in the evening, causing power outages and disruptions to activities across Missouri.
Two tornadoes were confirmed to have touched down in the Kansas City area, leaving thousands of homes without power. As a result, the screening of Scotland’s World Cup match against Haiti was canceled, with the weather alert taking precedence on television broadcasts.
The weather challenges added to England’s earlier setback of having their training equipment stolen, although the stolen items were later recovered. The team is gearing up for their World Cup campaign, starting with a match against Croatia in Texas, followed by games against Ghana and Panama in the Group L schedule.
Despite the weather disruptions, England remains focused on their upcoming matches as they navigate through the early stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
