England supporters from various parts of the world are converging in Dallas ahead of the World Cup opener against Croatia. Among them is Sam Bannister, 41, traveling from Kansas City to Dallas for the game, facing an eight-hour, 500-mile journey to make it in time for the 3 pm kick-off. He expressed excitement about the road trip and eagerly anticipated the match.
Fan groups estimated that around 10,000 England supporters would be present at the game, a number slightly lower than initially expected due to ticket and accommodation costs. Weather warnings have been issued for the high temperatures reaching 32°C (89.6°F) during the match.
Sam is accompanied by his friend Chris Thomas, 40, who sells traditional British pies through a street food business named ‘Brit Boy.’ They will be joined by fellow Brit Kye Martey and his American wife Sandi for the journey. Chris shared a mix of excitement and nervousness, hoping for a strong performance from the England team.
Another fan, George Smith, a finance worker living in San Diego, will attend the England group matches with his son Charlie, 11. George, 42, plans to take his Mexican-born wife, Monica, to the Azteca stadium if England faces her native country in the Round of 16. He has already invested around $7,000 (£5,178) in tickets for himself and his family, with potential expenses reaching £12,000 depending on England’s progress in the tournament.
