Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway has successfully undergone a lung transplant at a hospital in Norway. She has been fighting pulmonary fibrosis since 2018 and has been using an oxygen mask at recent events. The 52-year-old princess, married to Crown Prince Haakon, is now in recovery after the surgery, which was declared a success by Head of Thoracic Surgery at Oslo University Hospital, Arna Tiane.
The Norwegian Royal Family shared that the princess is doing well post-surgery. Tiane expressed gratitude for the team involved in the process and mentioned that Princess Mette-Marit will remain hospitalized for a few weeks for post-transplant care.
Norway’s Royal Family released a statement confirming the successful lung transplant and thanking everyone for the support during this challenging time. This news follows Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s return from studying in Australia to be with her mother amid her health deterioration.
Crown Prince Haakon mentioned that their daughter plans to stay in Oslo to support her mother, with the intention to resume studies in Australia later. Meanwhile, Mette-Marit’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, was recently sentenced to four years in prison for rape incidents involving two women. He was also convicted of mistreating an ex-girlfriend.
