Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that the current Saudi Pro League season could mark the end of his illustrious football career. The 41-year-old icon, who joined Riyadh’s Al-Nassr in December 2022, is set to see his contract expire in June, and prospects for another season appear slim.

“I believe this may be my final year playing football, and I aim to leave behind a remarkable legacy,” Ronaldo shared with Vogue magazine. The Portuguese star, renowned for netting 976 career goals, recently tied the knot with his longtime partner, Georgina Rodriguez.

“I have my future plans well laid out,” he expressed. “There are numerous endeavors awaiting me, making it hard to pinpoint just one. Football’s departure could create a void, necessitating diversions to occupy your time adequately.”

Ronaldo emphasized his intentions to engage in various activities post-retirement, including indulging in more leisure, travel, and his passion for padel. Reflecting on the sacrifices made over 25 years, he intends to relish the rewards earned throughout his career.

The ongoing 2026-27 SPL season marks Ronaldo’s 25th year in professional football. With a decorated career boasting five Ballon d’Or and UEFA Champions League titles, the veteran forward’s impact on Al-Nassr was pivotal in clinching the Saudi Arabian championship last season, the club’s first league triumph since 2019.

Following his recent wedding, Ronaldo sat out Al-Nassr’s season opener, witnessing their 3-0 victory over Al-Fateh from the sidelines. Coach Ange Postecoglou lauded Ronaldo’s presence and hinted at his potential participation in the upcoming King’s Cup clash against Al-Diriyah.

As Ronaldo contemplates retirement, his longtime rival Lionel Messi, who mourned his father’s passing, also hinted at a potential exit from the sport. Messi, aged 39, expressed uncertainty about his future in football, admitting to grappling with the decision to continue playing.
