Canton Ranks Third on Time Out’s Trendiest UK Neighborhoods

Must read

Canton, a familiar place for me, has secured a spot on Time Out’s compilation of the UK’s trendiest neighborhoods. Ranking third, it falls just behind Camberwell and Digbeth. Speculating that its absence from the top spot may be due to Londoners’ insatiable desire for the top position, the neighborhood has shed its previous image as merely a passageway for football fans heading to Cardiff City Stadium. Now, Canton thrives as a vibrant locale, accessible with a 30-minute stroll from the city center. The area boasts a variety of shops and cafes worth the meander, including Chapter Arts Centre, offering a range of entertainment from indie films to stylish events, and establishments like Hard Lines Coffee and Ffloc with delectable lunch options. Corp Market, once a pub, has transformed into a diverse traders market housing unique businesses like Head Above The Waves, a skatewear boutique doubling as a mental health support hub.

Once considered a less desirable suburb of Cardiff, Canton is now experiencing an influx of middle-class residents, leading to a surge in property values. The neighborhood’s landscape has evolved considerably, with old establishments making way for new and trendy venues. While the area has seen significant changes, reminiscent of my childhood memories, its essence as a local hub remains intact beneath the surface. Despite the emergence of upscale eateries, craft breweries, and innovative shops, Canton’s authenticity prevails, making it a cherished place for many, including myself.
