“British Tourists Warned About Travel to Istanbul for UEFA Final”

Must read

The Foreign Office has issued updated travel guidance for British tourists planning trips to Turkey.

Known for its affordability and pleasant Mediterranean weather, Turkey has been a popular destination for British travelers. The country offers expansive resorts, sandy beaches, clear blue waters, and vibrant cities with a mix of historical sites, mosques, and markets.

One of the must-visit cities in Turkey is Istanbul, with its remarkable architecture, lively streets, diverse street food offerings, and ancient landmarks like the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. However, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has issued a cautionary message to Brits, especially football enthusiasts, heading to Istanbul, which will host the UEFA Europa League Final on May 20.

The FCDO advised travelers going to Istanbul for the event to stay informed by reading their travel advice and signing up for FCDO Travel Advice email alerts.

It was recommended that travelers ensure their passports have at least 150 days’ validity upon arrival in Turkey and at least one blank page. Additionally, officials should stamp and date passports at land border crossings. Travelers were urged to verify with their travel provider that their passports and other documents meet the necessary requirements. Renewal of passports can be done through the government website.

Failure to possess a valid travel document may result in denied entry. British passport holders can stay in Turkey visa-free for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism or business purposes. However, those with different types of British passports must check visa requirements with the Turkish Embassy or Consulate General before traveling.

For comprehensive information on traveling to Turkey, individuals can visit the Foreign Office website.
