A 14-year-old British teenager is currently in critical condition after a near-drowning incident at Lloret de Mar on the Costa Brava, Spain. The girl was swept out to sea by a wave while swimming with friends from the UK. Two police officers rescued her after she went into cardiac arrest.
Emergency services were called around 11.30 am, with three ambulances responding to the scene where the sea was reported to be rough with strong currents. CPR was administered on the shore before she was taken to Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona.
Local reports indicate that the girl was on a study trip and staying at a hotel in Lloret. Eyewitnesses praised the quick response of emergency personnel, including local police and firefighters, for their efforts in saving the teenager’s life.
In a separate incident, two British siblings, aged 11 and 13, tragically drowned off the Spanish coast in Salou, Tarragona. Their father, who also entered the water, was rescued alive. The siblings were in cardiac arrest when emergency services arrived on the scene.
Psychological support was provided to the family, and authorities clarified that lifeguards had already left the beach when the incident occurred. The British family was reportedly staying at a nearby hotel during the unfortunate event.
