“BBC Apologizes for Wimbledon Scoreboard Glitch”

Must read

The BBC issued an apology to viewers due to a technical glitch that caused the scoreboard to disappear during Novak Djokovic’s match against Arthur Rinderknech at Wimbledon. The sudden disappearance of the score graphic led to BBC cameras switching to the physical scoreboard inside Centre Court. Lead commentator Andrew Cotter acknowledged the issue and mentioned they were working on resolving it.

When the scoreboard reappeared, viewers were surprised to see Djokovic trailing 3-0 in the third set after dominating the first two sets. Djokovic’s struggles were evident as he fell behind 4-0 and resorted to hitting himself on the leg multiple times during a changeover. Despite these challenges, Djokovic managed to win the match 3-1 in sets.

The BBC faced criticism during the tournament’s opening week, but the scoreboard malfunction was not attributed to them. The connectivity issue affected the Centre Court feeds at the All England Club, impacting the BBC’s coverage. Viewers expressed frustration over the constant channel-switching between BBC1, BBC2, and iPlayer.

In a separate incident, BBC1’s coverage shifted to the World Cup during England’s knockout match against DR Congo, disappointing fans who expected continued tennis coverage. Wimbledon 2026 tickets are now available for purchase with VIP access through Seat Unique.
