After over a decade of conducting interviews with celebrities from various fields over a meal of fried chicken, Amelia Dimoldenberg, the host of the popular YouTube talk show “Chicken Shop Date,” has announced the closure of her show this week.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Dimoldenberg expressed her gratitude to her audience for joining her on this journey and finding joy in the episodes. She described the show as her personal romantic comedy and mentioned that while she never envisioned ending “Chicken Shop Date,” she feels it is time to move on to new ventures.
Dimoldenberg initiated the show 12 years ago by interviewing musicians in the UK’s underground rap scene. Over time, she expanded her guest list to include celebrities like Keke Palmer, Conan O’Brien, Paul McCartney, and Jack Harlow, accumulating nearly 3.5 million subscribers on her YouTube channel.
“Chicken Shop Date” features Dimoldenberg going on a casual date with a celebrity at a fried chicken shop in London, where she asks a mix of flirty, humorous, and sometimes awkward questions. The show’s format fosters a playful banter akin to a first date rather than a conventional talk show interview, occasionally leading to moments of genuine flirting, as seen in her interaction with Andrew Garfield.
Among her numerous interviews, Dimoldenberg has also hosted Canadians like Ryan Reynolds, who had a funny exchange with her about his wife’s character on “Gossip Girl.” Additionally, Shania Twain revealed during her 2023 appearance that she had never actually met Brad Pitt, despite referencing him in her hit song “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
Dimoldenberg’s success with “Chicken Shop Date” has opened doors for her beyond the show, such as covering the Oscars red carpet this year and interviewing other celebrities like Hudson Williams. While it remains unknown what her next project will be post-“Chicken Shop Date,” she is reportedly developing a young adult drama series for the BBC.
Before bidding farewell to the show, Dimoldenberg promised her followers “a few final dates” to look forward to.
