“Dabrowski and Krejcikova Advance in Cincinnati Open”

Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Czechia’s Barbora Krejcikova progressed to the next round of the Cincinnati Open after defeating the fourth-seeded team of Spain’s Cristina Bucsa and American Nicole Melichar-Martinez in a tough match that lasted one hour, 33 minutes. This tournament marks the first time Dabrowski and Krejcikova have teamed up. They are set to compete against the unseeded Czech pair Linda Noskova and Marie Bouzkova in the Round of 16.

In another match, Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Que., and her partner Sara Errani of Italy secured a victory against Tamara Korpatsch of Germany and British player Emily Webley-Smith after a match lasting one hour, 29 minutes. Fernandez and Errani dominated the first set, but their opponents fought back in the second set, taking the lead at 6-5 and serving for the win before eventually losing. Fernandez and Errani displayed a strong performance with two aces, 23 winners, one double fault, and only nine unforced errors out of the 34 in the match. They are scheduled to face Chan Hao-ching of Taiwan and Maya Joint of Australia in the Round of 16.

Fernandez, who was defeated by Xiyu Wang of China in the women’s singles event on Sunday, continues her journey in the doubles competition of the Cincinnati Open.
