Approximately 150 corgis recently gathered for an international event celebrating the beloved herding dogs that hail from Wales. The fifth edition of Corgi Race Vilnius took place at Vingis Park in Lithuania, attracting participants from nine countries, including the United States and the UK, known for its association with the breed.
Organizer Edvinas Miskas highlighted the event’s growth, noting that from its modest beginnings with 40 corgis from one city, this year saw 150 dogs from various nations, including the breed’s place of origin. The competition featured a range of activities beyond racing, such as a costume parade and the “smartest nose” challenge.
The main running event included 94 corgis vying for victory over 25 meters, with the American competitor GG emerging as the winner. Accompanied by other notable contenders like Mr. Corgington and Lithuania’s Moka, the corgis showcased their agility and skills to the delight of spectators.
In addition to the racing excitement, the event featured engaging activities like a costume contest and a “smartest nose” challenge. Participants flaunted creative outfits, with one corgi named Amigo charming both judges and the public with a knight-inspired look. The dogs also demonstrated their intelligence by sniffing out hidden treats, with Latvian corgis Tora and Rusty sharing the top honors.
Moreover, the loudest bark competition added a fun twist to the event, with Mr. Corgington claiming victory in this unique showdown. Despite the focus on friendly competition, the gathering served as a platform for corgi enthusiasts to come together, celebrate the breed, and enjoy a day filled with excitement, camaraderie, and impressive canine talents.
