The excitement of the World Cup has gripped many, including Callum, a seller of vintage clothing who is capitalizing on the football fever.
Operating his small business from Cheshire, Callum has experienced a surge in requests for England football shirts ever since the tournament began this month.
During England’s victorious 4-2 match against Croatia, Callum was inundated with inquiries about his available stock, barely able to watch the game in peace.
Expressing his busyness, Callum mentioned, “I’ve been focusing on selling a lot of England shirts for this World Cup. I’ve managed to get around 100 shirts in stock, and just yesterday alone, I dispatched about 20 to 25 England shirts. It’s been non-stop!”
He added, “I aim to source vintage shirts, but I also carry some modern ones, including those from the Euros two years ago.”
Recalling his best sale, Callum shared, “I once sold a 2000 England shirt for £70 at a market. On Vinted, I typically price them around £30 to £35.”
Watching an England game recently, Callum found himself fielding shirt requests throughout the entire match duration.
Primarily utilizing Vinted as his main sales platform, Callum revealed that he can earn up to £2,500 in a good month. Additionally, he also lists items on other online selling platforms and at local markets.
Acknowledging the fast-paced nature of trends, Callum emphasized the importance of adaptability and responsiveness in the second-hand selling business.
He advised, “Staple items like Carhartt are consistent sellers for me, but I’m now focusing on staying updated with current trends.”
“Realtree and WYSE women’s clothing are currently in demand, while the popularity of brands like North Face has also been notable. Items like North Face puffer jackets, which I often price at over £100, have seen strong sales,” Callum explained.
Reflecting on market shifts, he mentioned, “Trends evolve rapidly, causing items like Tommy Hilfiger or Ralph Lauren, which were once popular, to now have a quieter market presence.”
Active engagement with buyers and adept negotiation skills are key strategies highlighted by Callum for successful selling on various platforms.
He emphasized, “It’s crucial to be proactive in sending offers, responding promptly to messages, and being open to bargaining.”
