“Jannik Sinner Considers US Open Mixed Doubles Boycott”

Must read

Jannik Sinner is contemplating bypassing the newly introduced mixed doubles event at the US Open due to a disagreement over prize money. The tournament revamped the competition last year, with Sinner initially slated to partner with Katerina Siniakova before withdrawing due to illness.

During the event, Carlos Alcaraz teamed up with British No. 1 Emma Raducanu, while Novak Djokovic partnered with Olga Danilovic for the doubles matches preceding the singles draw.

The champions, Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, received a $1 million prize. However, The Times has reported that players, including Sinner, are considering boycotting the event to push for a larger prize pool and enhanced player welfare conditions.

This potential boycott is part of a broader effort by players advocating for increased prize money at Grand Slam tournaments. At the recent French Open, some players limited their pre-tournament media engagements to 15 minutes as a form of protest.

In other news, Wimbledon announced a £10.7 million increase in the total prize fund for this year’s competition. The winner will take home £3.6 million, with first-round losers guaranteed £80,000.

Despite the prize fund growing by 25% from the previous year, players are adamant about receiving 22% of the total revenue generated, a target that has not been met despite the rise.

Deborah Jevans, chair of the All England Club, expressed frustration over the revenue-based prize money model, emphasizing the club’s reinvestment into the sport. Wimbledon 2026 tickets are now available for purchase with VIP access.
