A man was fatally shot in broad daylight in the heart of Barcelona. The incident occurred on Carrer de Balmes around 10 am local time, with the gunman fleeing the scene afterward. Reports indicate that the victim was lethally shot in the head, and the assailant managed to escape.
The shooting took place in front of the National Police’s DNI office, responsible for issuing National Police ID cards and passports. Catalan police, along with agents from the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC), have assumed control of the investigation. Authorities have obtained images of the suspect, and a firearm was recovered at the crime scene. A law enforcement operation is now underway to apprehend the perpetrator.
Barcelona is currently under heightened alert ahead of a scheduled visit from Pope Leo XIV later in the day. Just three days ago, another individual was also shot and killed in Zona Franca. Police are treating this second incident as a retaliatory act related to drug trafficking, as per ara.cat.
