“Beware: Email Scam Targets Virgin Media O2 Users”

Must read

Virgin Media O2 users are being warned to be cautious of a new email scam circulating in the UK. The scam targets individuals affected by the closure of O2’s outdated 3G mobile platform. Although most O2 customers have transitioned to faster 4G and 5G services, scammers are exploiting the situation.

The fraudulent emails claim to be from Virgin Media O2 and request a SIM card upgrade due to the 3G switch-off. The emails are convincingly designed with official branding and subject lines like “Alert: Switch to Your New 5G SIM for a Faster, Stronger Network.” Virgin Media O2 emphasizes that these emails are not genuine and should be deleted without clicking on any links or replying.

This phishing scam aims to deceive users into providing personal information. In some cases, scammers may send a SIM card by courier, ask for a four-digit PIN, and request users to log in to the O2 app with a provided password. Clicking on the “Contact Us” button in the email could lead victims directly to the fraudsters.

If successful, scammers could access private accounts or gather enough personal data to commit identity theft or other fraudulent activities. To stay safe, users are advised to ignore suspicious emails and contact the service provider directly using verified contact information. Seeking a second opinion before taking any action can also help prevent falling victim to such scams.
