“Jet2 Launches Direct Flights to Greek Island Samos”

Must read

Jet2 has recently commenced operations to a picturesque Greek island known for its rugged mountains, cobblestone streets, and refreshing waterfalls.

In May 2026, the low-cost carrier introduced a new flight route from the UK to Samos, making it only the second airline, following TUI, to offer direct flights to the island.

Between May and October, Jet2 will operate flights twice a week from Manchester Airport, London Stansted, and Birmingham to Samos, with ticket prices starting at £48.

With a population of 32,000, Samos is not as popular among British tourists compared to destinations like Crete, Cyprus, or Mykonos. However, there are numerous attractions that make a visit to Samos highly appealing.

The island boasts a rich historical significance, housing two UNESCO World Heritage Sites—Pythagoreion and Heraion, and is believed to be the birthplace of the Greek goddess Hera.

Samos has been the birthplace of several notable figures in history, including the Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras, philosophers Melissus of Samos and Epicurus, and astronomer Aristarchus of Samos, who was the first to propose the heliocentric model.

Known for its lush greenery, Samos stands out among the Greek islands with its diverse natural landscapes. The island features dense pine and cypress forests, with Mount Kerkis, reaching approximately 1,434 meters, dominating the western region, offering a popular hiking destination.

Despite being a Greek island, Samos is home to several rivers and waterfalls, with the Potami waterfall near Karlovasi being a notable attraction where visitors can swim in cascading pools surrounded by a picturesque setting.

Beaches on the island vary from bustling sandy shores to secluded pebbly stretches, providing a range of options for beach enthusiasts. Notable beaches include Psili Ammos with its golden sand and remote spots like Mikro Seitani and Megalo Seitani accessible only by foot or boat.

Antasia Nalmpanti, the general manager of Casa Cook Samos, a hotel on the island offering rooms starting at €243, described Samos as an undiscovered gem that retains its authenticity and charm. The hotel aims to provide guests with an experience that reflects the island’s unique character and traditions.

At Casa Cook Samos, guests are encouraged to embrace the Greek tradition of ‘parea,’ fostering connections through shared moments, stories, and local cuisine. The hotel’s Parea Bar and Samian Dinner offer authentic experiences that showcase the island’s culture and hospitality, creating lasting memories for visitors.
