An American Airlines aircraft at Philadelphia International Airport was evacuated due to reports of smoke detected by passengers. The incident occurred during the night, leaving travelers stranded on the tarmac.
The flight, bound for Savannah/Hilton Head International, encountered a mechanical issue before takeoff, according to a statement from American Airlines. The affected flight, American Eagle 5671 operated by PSA Airlines, was deplaned, and the aircraft was removed from service for inspection by maintenance personnel.
Passengers onboard mentioned smelling smoke as the plane taxied, prompting the crew to initiate an evacuation. Some individuals exited the aircraft using emergency exits, including Jerry Parker, who assisted in aiding others off the plane.
In response to the situation, Parker expressed frustration on behalf of fellow passengers awaiting alternative flights in Philadelphia, emphasizing the need for competent aircraft maintenance to avoid incidents like a previous UPS plane crash. American Airlines has not provided further details regarding the cause of the mechanical problem.
