“Teen’s Social Media Ban Leads to Mother’s Murder in Russia”

Must read

A 13-year-old girl allegedly murdered her mother in St. Petersburg, Russia, after her mother banned her from using social media. The incident occurred when Svetlana Cheglyakova, 46, confiscated her daughter’s phone following a disagreement over the girl’s excessive online activity.

According to law enforcement reports, the girl slit her mother’s throat, inflicted cuts on her own hands, and set fire to their apartment. Initially, the teenager claimed that an intruder had attacked them, but authorities suspect that she staged the scene to mimic scenarios from online games she played.

During police interrogation, the girl confessed to stabbing her mother in the neck during an argument about her internet browsing habits. She also accused her late mother of restricting her social life, monitoring her activities closely, and subjecting her to bullying behavior.

The girl’s online presence included TikTok videos featuring content from the game Roblox. Reports suggest that her actions, such as dancing in a burning room and carrying an injured player, were unusual and raised suspicions of her attempting to simulate her mother’s murder.

Despite the severity of the crime, the girl, being under the age of criminal responsibility in Russia, cannot be prosecuted for her mother’s death. The Russian Investigative Committee has initiated a murder investigation, and the girl is currently receiving medical treatment.
