Rescue operations are underway following a collapse at a coal mine in Spain, resulting in the death of at least two individuals. The incident occurred at the Vega de Rengos mine in Cangas del Narcea, where one miner is reportedly still trapped after a coal collapse. Authorities were notified of the emergency at 4:58 pm local time.
Emergency teams responded to a ground collapse on the mine’s second level, located approximately a mile from the entrance. Three miners are currently unreachable, with two bodies recovered so far. The President of Asturias, Adrián Barbón, expressed his sorrow and concern for the ongoing situation.
Real Oviedo, a local football club, paid homage to the deceased miners, acknowledging the deep impact of the loss on the community. The memory of a previous mining tragedy in the region, where five individuals lost their lives in an explosion at the Cerredo mine, remains vivid. Those affected were residents of León province, with several others injured in the incident earlier this year.
