More than 50 children were taken from a school by armed terrorists in a recent incident. The abduction occurred at St Mary’s Papiri Private Catholic Secondary School in Agwara, Niger State, Nigeria. Approximately 52 students were reportedly kidnapped during the early hours of Friday after the assailants invaded the school premises.

Security forces, including police tactical units and military personnel, have been dispatched to the area to search the surrounding forests in an effort to locate the abducted students. The authorities confirmed that the students were taken from the school’s hostel by the attackers around 2 am. However, the exact number of students kidnapped and their identities have not been disclosed yet.

The Niger State Police Command released a statement confirming the invasion of St. Mary’s Private Catholic Secondary School and the abduction of an undisclosed number of students. Security forces are actively working to rescue the kidnapped students from the forest area.

Authorities also expressed concerns regarding the school operating despite security directives for closure due to existing challenges. The Commissioner of Police for Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, reiterated the commitment to safely rescue the students and urged the public to cooperate with security operations.

This incident follows a similar attack on the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Kebbi, where armed bandits kidnapped 26 students. Two students managed to escape, leaving 24 girls still in captivity. The situation has been described as distressing for families and the school community, with uncertainty surrounding the conditions the abducted students are facing.
