Police rushed to the site of a fatal accident near the location where one of the five young individuals who lost their lives in a tragic collision in Co Louth last week is being laid to rest.
An older man is reported to have been involved in a collision with a lorry near The Church of Our Lady, where Dylan Commins is scheduled for burial today. The man, aged in his 80s, was declared dead at the scene. The main road that the funeral procession was supposed to take has been shut down as emergency responders work at the site.
In an official statement, police stated: “Officers and emergency services are presently on site at a traffic incident that occurred on the Main Street of Ardee, Co Louth this morning, Friday, 21st of November 2025. Main Street in Ardee has been blocked off while emergency services are in attendance.”
This tragedy follows a recent fatal crash just outside Dundalk, Co Louth, where five victims, including Alan McCluskey, Chloe McGee, Dylan Commins, Shay Duffy, and Chloe Hipson, lost their lives in a car collision.
The group was traveling in a vehicle that collided with another car near Dundalk last Saturday night.
Family and friends paid heartfelt tributes ahead of memorial services held last week. Alan McCluskey, 23, was praised as a “kind young man” who had just returned from a holiday in Dubai with his girlfriend, Chloe McGee, to celebrate her new job. A large gathering commemorated Alan’s funeral in Drumconrath on Friday.
Dylan, 23, worked as a mechanic and was described as “authentic” and “highly intelligent” by a friend. Chloe, 21, had moved from Scotland to Ireland to study Quantity Surveying at DkIT. A friend described her as “truly unique, the most humorous and beautiful girl around.”
Shay Duffy was fondly remembered in tributes as “a wonderful guy” who always brought “a smile and wit to every situation.”
