The tragic incident of a fatal collision in Louth, Ireland, has led to solemn commemorations in various locations across the county tonight, as Ireland grieves the loss of five companions.
Chloe McGee (23), Alan McCluskey (23), and Dylan Commins (23) perished along with Chloe Hipson and Shay Duffy, both aged 21, in a collision involving their VW Golf and a Toyota Land Cruiser on Ardee Road at Gibstown shortly after 9pm on November 15. The victims were identified on Sunday by local authorities, who highlighted the profound impact the tragedy had on the communities of Dundalk and its surroundings.
Relatives and acquaintances of the group have shared heartfelt tributes following their identification last weekend, as vigils are set to be held this evening.
Chloe, hailing from Carrickmaross in County Monaghan, was a dedicated woodwork and construction instructor who had recently secured a permanent teaching position at Dundalk’s Ó Fiaich Institute. She belonged to a hardworking farming family and was survived by a younger brother and sister.
Monsignor Shane McCaughey, the local parish priest of Carrickmacross, praised the 23-year-old Chloe, noting her versatility in effortlessly transitioning between work and social occasions.
Pádraig McGovern, principal of the Ó Fiaich Institute, remembered Chloe as a vibrant and accomplished educator, highlighting her dedication to her students and her exceptional involvement in various activities.
Chloe tragically passed away alongside her partner, Alan McCluskey.
Alan McCluskey, also 23, hailed from a farming background in Drumconrath, County Meath, where he worked as a fencing contractor while assisting in managing the family farm. Described as a gentle and kind-hearted individual, Alan had recently returned from a holiday in Dubai with Chloe, celebrating her new job.
Chloe had referred to the couple as “big kids enjoying life” in a caption of a photo from their travels in the Middle East. The local community, represented by Father Finian Connaughton, expressed deep sorrow upon hearing the news of Alan’s demise.
