Zara McDermott breaks silence on ‘awkward’ TV appearance with ex Sam Thompson

Zara McDermott has broken her silence after an ‘awkward’ TV appearance alongside ex Sam Thompson on Michael McIntyre’s Big Show on Saturday, which was filmed just days before they split.

The 28-year-old former Love Island and Strictly star shocked fans when she revealed that she had split from I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! winner Sam and that the Made In Chelsea star had moved out of their London home, which was where comedian Michael McIntyre filmed the skit for his show.

Michael surprised the couple in bed for his Midnight Gameshow section of his Saturday night spectacular but it almost didn’t happen after the couple locked their door from the inside, which meant the comedian had to knock to enter rather than burst in, as would usually happen.

Zara took to her Instagram Stories to share a clip of the moment, as she comments as the action unfolds on the screen. It is fair to say that Zara was enjoying every minute of watching back the ensuing mayhem and told her followers: “I am not joking when I say, we thought that it was a burglar, we thought we were being robbed.”

Zara claimed that filming the show was “the scariest thing” in her life at the moment when Michael shouted “housekeeping” through the door. The comedian was not alone either, as he had Celebrity SAS’ Jason Fox on hand to reunite with Sam. The hard man challenged Sam to answer questions about his relationship with Zara, while holding huge weights, which left viewers cringing at the “awkward” TV appearance.

Just days before they split, Jason demanded, “Do you actually love her?” after Sam failed to remember gifts that Zara had bought him over their time together. Their appearance on the show prompted a response on social media with one posting on X: “Now that Sam and Zara have split up this is absolutely awkward.”

Others asked whether Michael was instrumental in their split, with one posting: “Did Michael break up Sam and Zara?!” Another added: “Well, Michael McIntyre’s big show is awkward to watch considering Sam and Zara have broken up.”

Michael revealed on the show the moment when he thought that the skit would not work. He said: “They were terrified as I had to knock on the door – but thankfully they then had the time of their lives.”

A source told The Sun last week that at the time of the filming, everything was rosy between the couple despite their relationship was on the brink of breaking down: “Zara and Sam were really happy and in love when they agreed to take part in the Midnight Gameshow.”
