A woman has shared that she underwent a deliberate rib-fracturing surgery to reshape her waistline.
RibXcar, also known as rib remodelling, is a minimally invasive surgical procedure aimed at enhancing the definition of the waistline without removing any ribs.
This technique, although relatively new and not widely practiced, is gaining popularity. While considered a low-risk procedure by experts, potential complications include chronic pain, visible scarring, an unnatural appearance, a sunken look, and the loss of the ribs’ protective function.
Following the surgery, patients are required to wear a tight corset for three months to control the extent of waistline reduction desired. Patients may achieve up to a five-inch reduction in waist size over the three months. It is crucial for individuals to conduct thorough research and seek treatment only from certified plastic surgeons.
The Daily Mirror initiated a campaign in November 2024 to eliminate unqualified cosmetic practitioners and tighten regulations surrounding cosmetic surgery in the UK. The campaign advocates for stricter guidelines, supports government efforts to caution the public about the hazards of “medical tourism,” and prioritizes patient safety.
A 25-year-old woman identified as Natalie Y disclosed that she extensively researched the procedure and is also employed in the medical field.
“I am a medical assistant working for Dr. Thomas Sterry, a board-certified plastic surgeon in New York, and had previously received filler and Botox treatments from him. So, when I decided to address my body concerns, I consulted him,” Natalie informed The Cut.
“I was dissatisfied with my flanks, which stored excess fat, and despite regular exercise, I struggled to eliminate it. Additionally, my abdomen made me feel like I had a short torso with no distinct separation,” she explained.
“Dr. Sterry suggested that liposuction could remove the fat cells, but the bony structure would remain unchanged. To achieve an hourglass figure, I needed to reshape my protruding ribs through this surgery,” Natalie added.
Initially shocking but supportive, her close friends learned about her planned procedure. While Dr. Sterry had performed the surgery in Peru a few times, Natalie became his first patient in New York. The cost of treatment starts at $9,900 (£7,459), with additional expenses for liposuction, totaling around $16,000 (£12,057).
Expressing satisfaction with the results, Natalie remarked, “There were moments during my recovery when I felt dissatisfied with the healing process and was overly critical of myself.”
“Initially, I felt that the changes were not as pronounced as I desired, and I still felt somewhat boxy. However, as the swelling subsided and I healed, I began to witness my true transformation,” she shared.
Natalie noticed a more defined appearance post-surgery and claimed to have lost six inches off her waistline. Describing herself as feeling like a new individual with enhanced confidence, she asserted that she would undergo the procedure again without hesitation.
