Wetherspoon is gearing up to launch 15 new pubs in collaboration with the renowned fish and chips chain, Papas. The inaugural establishment, named The Hykeham Manor, will debut in Gateway Park, Lincoln, on October 1. Following this, three more pubs are set to open in Annitsford, Northumberland, Stockton-on-Tees, Co Durham, and Emersons Green in Bristol throughout October and November.
Under a franchise agreement with The Papas Group, which oversees Papa’s Fish and Chips and Wendy’s restaurants, Wetherspoon will oversee the operation of these pubs. Michael Barron, the commercial director of Wetherspoon, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the potential for additional franchise agreements in the future.
Andrew Papas, director of Papas Group, also shared excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing the significance of these new pub locations in local communities. The partnership aims not only for expansion but also for the restoration and rejuvenation of community spaces, creating job opportunities and providing exceptional service to patrons.
In a related development, Wetherspoon recently partnered with Haven, investing £6.7 million in the expansion of new pubs. Additionally, Wetherspoon has existing franchise agreements with Newcastle and Hull Universities and Thompson Holdings. The pub chain has also reintroduced a menu item following a customer complaint, showcasing its dedication to meeting customer preferences.
