Virgin Media customers using outdated TV set-top boxes have been advised to upgrade as soon as possible. The BBC iPlayer app will soon be inaccessible on aging TiVo models, affecting those who haven’t switched to newer V6 or 360 devices. Customers with TiVo boxes that have used BBC iPlayer in the past six months have been notified that the app will stop working from July 23.
Virgin Media has specifically reached out to users with older boxes to prompt them to upgrade and avoid losing access to iPlayer. The telecoms company regularly updates newer devices with additional channels, such as the recent addition of British Screen Classics and wedotv movies on Virgin boxes.
It’s important to act promptly and agree to the upgrade when Virgin sends the email, as the iPlayer service will cease to function after the July deadline. While the reason behind the loss of iPlayer support remains unclear, it is a common occurrence for older devices to struggle with new features, as seen with other apps like WhatsApp discontinuing support on outdated smartphones.
