A passenger wearing multiple face masks caused a plane to make an emergency landing by screaming about LGBTQ individuals allegedly giving him cancer. The US domestic flight had to divert its route from Minneapolis-St. Paul to Newark, New Jersey after the disruptive passenger started a mid-air disturbance, including shouting about former President Trump’s presence.
Witnesses reported the man yelling that the plane was going down and making derogatory remarks about the LGBTQ community. As a safety precaution, the aircraft was directed back to the ground due to the disruptive behavior. Seth Evans, a fellow passenger on the flight, shared his experience of sitting near the individual with a significant number of medical masks.
Chaos erupted shortly after takeoff as the unruly passenger intermittently screamed about being harmed by the LGBTQ community. He expressed delusional fears of being targeted and harmed by LGBTQ individuals, attributing his health issues to their actions while also mentioning the presence of Trump. The situation escalated when the passenger mentioned the plane crashing, leading to the plane being redirected to Chicago for the passenger’s removal by law enforcement.
Following the incident, the flight remained on the ground in Chicago as authorities questioned passengers. The disruptive individual was taken into custody by Chicago police, and the flight eventually resumed its journey to Newark. The FBI has taken over the case for further investigation.
This incident occurred shortly after another disruptive event on a different flight, where a woman had to be restrained after making threatening remarks towards flight attendants. The passenger, Ketty J. Dilone, was involved in a similar disruptive behavior on a separate flight bound for Las Vegas.
