The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has provided details on the amount recipients can expect to receive in Winter Fuel Payment this year. Eligible individuals will receive a payment ranging from £100 to £300 in their bank accounts. These payments are distributed from November to December to pensioners born before September 22, 1959.
Those earning over £35,000 will be required to repay the Winter Fuel Payment through the tax system unless they choose to opt out. Income eligibility for the payment is assessed per person. For instance, if one person earns £30,000 per year and their partner earns £40,000, one individual will keep their share of the payment while the other will need to repay it.
The amount received is determined by age during the qualifying week and whether the individual or someone they reside with receives benefits. Individuals aged 80 or above or those living with someone in this age bracket generally qualify for the higher payment. The qualifying week for this winter is September 15 to 21, 2025.
Those living alone or with no eligible individuals will receive a specific payment. The payment amount varies depending on factors such as claiming Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), or Income Support either individually or as a joint claim with a partner.
Residents in care homes, if eligible, will also receive a designated payment.
