“UK to ‘Shelter in Place’ Amid Storm Amy”

Must read

Parts of the United Kingdom are set to advise residents to “shelter in place” from 4pm to 6pm today due to the impact of Storm Amy.

The storm is currently affecting significant areas of the UK and Ireland. Keith Leonard, the national director of Ireland’s emergency management unit, anticipates that Met Eireann will issue a red level weather warning for the county during that specific timeframe.

During an interview on RTE’s News at One, Mr. Leonard cautioned individuals residing in Donegal, Northern Ireland. He emphasized the importance of taking precautions during the 4pm to 6pm period, advising people to stay indoors and exercise caution on the roads before and after the warning period. Mr. Leonard also highlighted the anticipated heavy rainfall and the likelihood of fallen trees causing potential hazards.

Yellow weather warnings are currently in effect for a significant portion of Scotland and Northern Ireland, with Storm Amy expected to bring strong winds and rainfall across the rest of the UK leading into the weekend.

As the first named storm of the season approaches from the Atlantic, schools in Northern Ireland have decided to close early, and ferry services from the western coast of Scotland have been suspended.

Friday is expected to see heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 100mph in exposed coastal regions. A yellow weather warning for rain is in place for western Scotland and Northern Ireland starting at noon.

The inclement weather conditions are projected to move southward later in the day, with yellow warnings covering the entirety of the UK, including southern England, throughout Saturday.
