According to Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, the Russian drones were not carrying any weapons, suggesting the intent was more provocative than aggressive. Despite some drones penetrating deep into Polish territory, only a few were successfully intercepted out of the total number that entered.
In response to the drone attack, France has announced the deployment of fighter jets to Poland, while the UK has imposed new sanctions targeting Russia’s oil revenue and military capabilities. This coordinated action aims to convey a message to Moscow that further aggression will be met with resistance.
French President Emmanuel Macron has confirmed the dispatch of three advanced Rafale fighter jets to enhance Poland’s air defense and support NATO’s eastern borders. The decision was made in consultation with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, emphasizing a united front against Russian threats.
The UK’s sanctions focus on identifying and penalizing 70 ships associated with Russia’s “shadow fleet” involved in circumventing existing sanctions by transporting oil. Additionally, around 30 entities and individuals, including those from China and Turkey, have been sanctioned for their role in supplying Russia with materials for weaponry.
