“True Crime Enthusiasts Shocked by ‘Monster: The Ed Gein Story’ on Netflix”

Must read

A recent Netflix series has provided viewers with a chilling glimpse into the psyche of the ‘most heinous killer in US history,’ leaving true crime enthusiasts shocked. The much-anticipated show, “Monster: The Ed Gein Story,” premiered on October 3, shedding light on the infamous murderer Ed Gein.

Part of director Ryan Murphy’s Monster series, the new production features Charlie Hunnam portraying Ed Gein, a sadistic individual who served as the inspiration for fictional characters like Buffalo Bill from “The Silence Of The Lambs,” as well as influences on “Psycho” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”

Over a decade, Gein engaged in grave-robbing and necrophilia near his secluded residence in Plainfield, Wisconsin, where he also harvested body parts. Additionally, he brutally murdered two women, leading to a horrifying discovery in his home by law enforcement in 1957.

Gein’s morbid actions were believed to be linked to his late mother, Augusta, as psychiatrists suggest that his victims resembled her physically. His disturbing desire to create a “woman suit” resembling his mother was revealed during his arrest, indicating his unsettling fixation.

The series also touches upon suspicions surrounding Gein’s involvement in the disappearances of two young girls, Georgia Jean Weckler and Evelyn Grace Hartley. Although portrayed in the show, there is no concrete evidence linking Gein to the latter’s tragic fate.

After a tumultuous legal journey, Gein was ultimately deemed guilty but legally insane, receiving a life sentence in a psychiatric facility. He passed away from lung cancer at the age of 77 in 1984, marking the end of a dark chapter in American criminal history.
