A tragic incident occurred where a winemaker, Matteo Forner, aged 44, lost his life after being caught in his grape press machine while cleaning it on the evening of October 10. Matteo, who was about to turn 45 in less than two weeks, suffered a fatal neck injury in the accident, leading to his immediate passing.
The unfortunate event took place at a winery established by Matteo’s family, where his father, Lino, reportedly witnessed the heartbreaking incident. Both Matteo and Lino believed the machine was switched off during the cleaning process, but a temporary power outage caused it to restart unexpectedly when power was restored.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and medical professionals, arrived at the scene, confirming Matteo’s death. His body was later transferred to the Castelfranco Veneto mortuary for further procedures.
Matteo, a prominent figure in the Grappa region, had recently been elected to the city council for the Castelcucco Nuova party in 2022. His sudden demise has deeply affected the community, with Mayor Paolo Mares expressing condolences to Matteo’s family and remembering him as a dedicated and compassionate individual.
The Pat del Colmél winery, situated in the Montello Colli Asolani sub-region of Treviso in the Veneto, has been in the Forner family’s ownership since 1875. Passed down through generations, Matteo had been leading the company in recent years alongside his parents, Gabriella and Lino Forner.
Matteo is survived by his parents, his 15-year-old son, and his siblings, leaving a void in both his family and the local community.
