A young child was tragically declared deceased after being discovered unconscious and unresponsive in his residence around 5 pm on Friday, October 3.
Little Anthony Casey was found by law enforcement officers following a 911 call from a budget-friendly housing complex in Brooklyn just before 5 pm on the same Friday, as stated by the New York Police Department.
The one-year-old sustained injuries to his torso, according to the medical examiner, leading to the determination by the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner that Casey’s passing was a result of a criminal act, as reported by the Daily News.
Although no arrests have been made, the incident is currently under investigation.
In a separate incident, a couple perished in a scorching hot bath, leaving their child orphaned shortly after their birthday. Ana Carolina Silva, 41, and Jeferson Luiz Sagaz, 37, from Brazil, were discovered lifeless in a motel after being in a bath with a temperature of 50C.
According to local news source Globo G1, a toxicology examination revealed elevated alcohol levels and traces of cocaine. After conducting 16 forensic tests, the Civil Police ruled out potential causes of death such as electric shock, drowning, carbon monoxide poisoning, or foul play.
During the investigation, law enforcement scrutinized the motel room, the couple’s vehicle, and reviewed CCTV footage. Brazil’s Chief Medical Examiner Andressa Boer Fronza stated, “The cause of death for both individuals was external poisoning, leading to heatstroke along with severe dehydration, thermal collapse, resulting in organ failure and death.”
Chief of Police Felipe Simão Gomes remarked, “The circumstances surrounding these deaths, along with the substances detected on the bodies, led the Civil Police to conclude that the cause of death was sudden and not a result of third-party involvement.”
Jefferson and Ana Carolina, who had been in a relationship for nearly two decades, were described by acquaintances as caring parents and outgoing individuals. Authorities indicated there was no history of violence in their case.
Concerns arose when the couple’s family reported them missing after failing to collect their daughter. The family had recently celebrated their daughter’s fourth birthday at a food park before entrusting her to caregivers and heading to a nightclub.
Allegedly, they left the daughter at Jefferson’s sister’s residence before checking into the Dallas Motel in São José, Brazil shortly after midnight.
A missing persons inquiry was initiated, leading to the discovery of their lifeless bodies in the bathroom. Medical professionals determined that their demise was due to a range of issues including heatstroke and organ failure.
Investigators disclosed that Jeferson, a military police officer, and Ana Carolina, a nail salon proprietor, lost consciousness in 50C water while a heater was operational. Their family members harbor suspicions regarding the circumstances of their deaths.
