A man in his 60s tragically passed away at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida just a week after a young woman died at the same theme park. The woman’s body was discovered near Disney’s Contemporary Resort, one of the many hotels at the resort, with Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) confirming it as an “apparent suicide.”
On Tuesday morning at 7:30 am, a tragic incident occurred as authorities responded to a “Person Down” call at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. The man was found to have experienced a “medical episode” and was later declared dead in the hospital.
An Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson informed the media that a man in his 60s had a medical episode and was taken to a local hospital where he unfortunately passed away, with no indications of foul play.
The incident happened at the Cottontail Curl campsite, one of the 21 camping areas within the resort, prompting an emergency alert for all guests staying at the resort.
This incident follows the death of Summer Equitz, 31, at Disney’s Contemporary Resort on October 14 due to “multiple blunt impact injuries,” as reported by OCSO. Initial social media reports suggested she was hit by the resort’s monorail, but the sheriff’s office corrected this misinformation.
Ms. Equitz, a resident of Naperville, was identified by the local medical examiner’s office and had shared photos of her Disney park visits on social media.
Before authorities confirmed her death, a now-deleted Reddit post described Equitz as a “missing person,” alleging she had traveled to Florida to visit Disney without informing anyone, as per People’s report.
Disney has not issued any statements regarding her death, and investigations are ongoing.
