A man in his 40s named Tommy Connors tragically died in Ireland in a “weather-related incident.” Mr. Connors, from Letterkenny in County Donegal, passed away after falling from a shed roof on Friday. He died at the scene, and authorities are treating the incident as weather-related.
His body was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The results of the examination will guide the ongoing investigations by the Garda Síochána. A file will be prepared for the coroner as tributes pour in for Mr. Connors, a well-known figure in the Letterkenny area.
The incident occurred during a Status Red weather warning on Friday afternoon. At the peak of the storm, hundreds of thousands of properties were left without power. The number decreased significantly by Saturday night, with about 11,000 properties still without power in the Republic of Ireland and 9,000 in Northern Ireland.
Efforts to restore power continued, with the ESB focusing on areas like Donegal, Leitrim, Roscommon, Galway, and Mayo. Crews worked across the island, facing various challenges, including dealing with incidents like fallen trees disrupting power lines.
ESB technicians, like Mark Lennon, emphasized the importance of safety during the storm aftermath. They urged people to stay clear of downed power lines and contact emergency services for assistance. Storm Amy brought strong winds, with gusts reaching up to 148kmh and sustained winds of 94kmh in exposed coastal regions.
Warnings for wind and rain were issued and later expired in several counties. Northern Ireland also faced weather alerts, with the PSNI advising caution during the storm recovery phase. Authorities worked diligently to restore essential services like power, water, and transportation networks across the region.
