Must read

Two individuals have lost their lives following a tragic accident involving a tourist coach colliding with a truck near a popular beach resort in Egypt. The incident occurred along the Ras Gharib-Hurghada road, north of the Red Sea, near Hurghada, resulting in injuries to 36 other passengers. Among the 24 individuals on the coach, believed to be foreign nationals, the authorities have not disclosed the nationalities of the victims at this time.

Emergency response teams swiftly responded to the scene early in the morning, transporting the injured individuals to hospitals in and around Hurghada, a renowned tourist destination known for its picturesque sandy beaches and upscale hotels. Reports indicate that a Red Sea tourism company’s coach, traveling north from Hurghada, collided with a heavy truck in the early hours, leading to the unfortunate demise of the coach driver and another passenger. Foreign nationals are among those critically injured, as confirmed by the authorities.

Hurghada, located approximately 290 miles south of Cairo, the capital of Egypt, can be reached via the Ras Gharib-Hurghada road in about five hours. The destination of the coach on the day of the accident remains unknown.

In a separate incident, a fatal collision involving two passenger trains occurred in Egypt’s Nile Delta, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving around 30 others with serious injuries, including potentially foreign nationals. The tragic event unfolded in Zagazig, the capital of Sharqiya province, as confirmed by the country’s railway authority. Egypt’s Health Ministry reported at least 29 individuals injured in the collision, with images from the scene depicting onlookers amidst the wreckage.

Following the collision, over three dozen ambulances were dispatched to the site, with the injured individuals transported to Al-Ahrar and Zagazig University hospitals. The collision involved passenger train No 281, traveling from Zagazig to Ismailia, and passenger train No 336, traveling from Mansoura to Zagazig, according to the railway authority.

Incidents of train derailments and crashes are unfortunately common in Egypt, attributed to an aging railway system compounded by mismanagement. Efforts have been initiated by the government in recent years to enhance the country’s railway infrastructure and safety standards.
