Hollywood icon Tim Curry has revealed details about his encounter with Donald Trump while filming Home Alone 2. The 79-year-old British actor reflected on his interactions with Trump, who was a prominent New York business figure at the time, not yet involved in politics or television.
More than three decades after the release of Home Alone 2, Tim has written a memoir titled ‘Vagabond: A Memoir,’ recounting his life pre and post a stroke in 2012 that left him partially paralyzed. Recalling Trump’s actions on set at The Plaza Hotel, Tim mentioned Trump’s eagerness to introduce his then-partner, Marla Maples, to the director.
Tim shared with the Guardian that Trump was insistent on Marla meeting the director, claiming she was a talented actress, a sentiment Tim found dubious. Additionally, Tim admitted to fibbing to Trump’s wife, Ivana, about her interior decorating choices during the time Trump stayed at the hotel for the movie’s production.
Notably, other members of the Home Alone 2 team, including director Chris Columbus, have also commented on Trump’s cameo in the film. Chris Columbus, known for directing early Harry Potter films, expressed regret over including Trump in the movie, referring to it as a burden he wishes to erase.
Despite his desire to remove Trump’s scene, Chris Columbus, based in San Francisco, expressed concerns about potential repercussions given Trump’s political power. His comments came after Trump’s re-election, amid worries of backlash from the president’s administration towards critics, including Hollywood figures who had spoken out against him.
The entertainment industry has seen conflicts with Trump supporters, evident in the clash with celebrities protesting against the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s show earlier this year, while Trump celebrated on his social media platform, Truth Social.
