Tim Pusey secures his place in the upcoming World Darts Championship, potentially causing a dilemma for the event organizers due to his daring nickname choice. The 31-year-old, known as ‘The Magnet’ during competitions, earned his spot at Alexandra Palace after clinching three titles on the ADA Tour and finishing at the top of the rankings, alongside defending champion Luke Littler.
In his previous televised appearances in World Series events in 2018, 2019, and earlier in 2025, Pusey did not use a nickname. However, the use of ‘The Magnet’ may prompt discussions among the authorities about a possible nickname adjustment, as seen in the case of World No 80 Owen Bates, who had to change his nickname from ‘The Master’ after it was deemed inappropriate by the PDC during the 2023 World Darts Championship.
Littler, the reigning champion, is set to defend his title at Ally Pally in December following his victory over Michael van Gerwen earlier this year. The highly anticipated tournament is scheduled to commence on December 11 and conclude with the final on January 3.
Expressing his ambitions, Littler aims to surpass the remarkable 11 world titles achieved by Phil Taylor, stating his belief in his potential to break the record. Despite falling short in the recent Premier League, Littler managed to secure victories, including the World Matchplay title by defeating James Wade in the final.
The sport of darts continues to captivate fans, with both established champions and rising talents showcasing their skills on the competitive stage.
