Following an emergency call, police officers encountered a 14-year-old girl who was severely malnourished, appearing much younger than her actual age. The distressing details of her situation unfolded as medical professionals assessed her condition.
The teenager, residing in a trailer with her family, was in critical condition when her father, Walter Goodman, contacted emergency services on August 21, reporting her alarming symptoms. Hospital evaluations revealed that the girl was malnourished, hypothermic, and suffering from severe health issues, including acute hepatitis, pancreatitis, and multiple organ failures. Shockingly, she weighed only 38 pounds, significantly below the healthy weight range for her age group.
Subsequently, Goodman, his wife Melissa Goodman, their daughter Savanna LeFever, and LeFever’s partner, Kayla Stemler, were arrested on various felony charges related to chronic child neglect. Investigators unveiled a history of extreme neglect spanning several years.
Allegations suggest that the girl endured neglect in various forms – nutritional, emotional, medical, physical, and psychological – over a prolonged period in Wisconsin, USA. Documents indicate that the abuse began when she was nine years old, depicting a harrowing narrative of mistreatment.
The victim was reportedly confined to a locked room, deprived of basic necessities like food, water, and proper sleeping conditions. Prosecutors revealed that she was closely monitored via a webcam, with Goodman claiming to interact with her through this surveillance system. Despite claims of feeding her regularly due to autism, medical staff observed the girl’s excitement for food options during her hospitalization.
Digital evidence uncovered disturbing messages, with Goodman making threatening remarks about his daughter’s well-being, while Melissa Goodman, LeFever, and Stemler allegedly discussed physically abusing the girl.
Medical professionals noted the victim’s reluctance to eat in fear of her father’s reaction, indicating a history of severe restriction. She had been isolated from school and outdoor activities for an extended period.
Fortunately, the victim is now stable and recovering with relatives. A GoFundMe campaign supporting her progress highlighted significant improvements in her health, emphasizing her resilience and determination to overcome past traumas.
Legal proceedings are underway for the defendants, with court appearances scheduled for Goodman, Stemler, LeFever, and Melissa Goodman, each facing accountability for their alleged roles in the tragic neglect case.
