A 16-year-old female soccer player, who initially had a mild cough and fever on Christmas Day, tragically passed away shortly after contracting sepsis. Orla Taylor, from Turriff in Aberdeenshire, sought medical attention twice at Inverurie Hospital between Christmas and New Year due to vomiting and feeling unwell. Despite appearing happy upon arrival, Orla’s condition rapidly deteriorated, leading to her being put into a medical coma. Unfortunately, Orla succumbed to the illness on New Year’s Day.
Orla’s father, Scott, expressed profound grief over her unexpected loss, mentioning that medical staff initially diagnosed her with flu during her hospital visits. The family praised the swift actions of healthcare providers who suspected sepsis and provided immediate treatment. Orla’s loved ones, including her siblings, grandparents, and extended family, had the chance to be with her before her passing, but the pain of her absence remains overwhelming.
A talented footballer and player-coach for Turriff United’s youth team, Orla was described as a vibrant and inspiring presence by her club. The team plans to honor her memory and support grieving players during this difficult period. A memorial service for Orla will be held on January 27 at Fyvie Parish Church.
