A 30-year-old married teacher has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for engaging in sexual activities with students in exchange for money, drugs, and alcohol. Carissa Jane Smith was found guilty of offering students $100 or more for sexual favors, either in cash or through CashApp. She also reportedly provided the minors with alcohol and marijuana. Smith, a former substitute teacher, was apprehended in November last year and faced 19 charges, including statutory rape and child sex trafficking, to which she pleaded guilty in September.
During the court proceedings, disturbing allegations surfaced, including a student claiming that Smith coerced him into ejaculating inside her. Another accusation involved Smith destroying a student’s phone when he threatened to expose a video of her engaging in oral sex. In a separate incident, a student was allegedly lured by a peer under the pretense of earning money for work, only to be taken to Smith’s residence where the exploitation took place while the accomplice waited outside.
Furthermore, it was revealed that Smith’s husband reportedly threatened one of the students with a baseball bat after learning about a video showing Smith smoking marijuana that could potentially blackmail her. One victim disclosed to authorities that he began interacting with Smith in August 2023 while in middle school and she was substituting for his class. Police documents indicated that Smith shared her Snapchat username with students, sending them explicit photos of herself.
Law enforcement officials stated that Smith engaged in sexual activities with students not only at her home but also in various locations, including gravel roads, on multiple occasions throughout a year. The Dixon School District expressed deep concern over the alleged offenses committed by Smith, describing them as disturbing and distressing.
