Three in 10 British individuals display greater knowledge about Donald Trump compared to Prince Charles, as per a recent study of 2,000 adults. The research unveiled that 30% of the participants are equally well-versed in American pop culture as in their own. Notably, 40% of the daily information they consume originates from the United States, with 23% showing a preference for Taylor Swift’s music over Dua Lipa’s.
Furthermore, nearly 10% of respondents are more familiar with the romantic lives of actors Zendaya and Tom Holland than with the Royal family. This percentage rises to 29% among individuals aged 18 to 24. Surprisingly, 34% of this younger demographic exhibit a higher level of awareness about the Kardashians than the popular TV show EastEnders.
A spokesperson from Lottoland.co.uk, which commissioned the survey to coincide with its US £520 million Powerball draw, stated, “There is a wealth of captivating US culture readily available for us to engage with.”
“From television, cinema, and music to cuisine and beverages, the US offers an abundance of elements that have permeated the UK. Even political discussions are a common occurrence,” they added.
The study also revealed that 18% of participants watch more American TV shows than British ones, particularly favoring drama, comedy, and crime genres from the US.
Regarding music from the States, pop, rock, and country genres dominate, with 88% expressing enjoyment of some form of American culture in their British lifestyle.
Apart from television and music, Americans foods (37%), literature (24%), and sports (17%) are appreciated by Brits. Additionally, 15% partake in Thanksgiving celebrations in the UK, and one in 10 observe Independence Day on July 4th.
Moreover, Netflix, Hollywood blockbusters, and Coca-Cola have been voted as the top American exports, closely followed by Rock and Roll, Disneyland, and instant coffee.
