Strictly star ‘found it difficult’ as he makes Chris McCausland admission

Must read

Strictly Come Dancing star Tommy Blaize has opened up about a moment he found “difficult” during the 2024 final of the BBC show, which saw Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell take home the Glitterball trophy. Tommy, who is the vocalist on Strictly, appeared on ITV’s Lorraine to chat about the dance show.

Host Lorraine Kelly quizzed him about the final, most notably Dianne and Chris’ waltz to You’ll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers, which proved to be a hugely emotional moment for everyone involved, including viewers at home.

“Tommy that was a gorgeous moment,” Lorraine said, with Tommy agreeing: “It really was, it was quite special.”

She continued: “Sometimes you’re kind of the unsung hero because we hear you but we don’t often see you, so it was lovely to see you there. What a special, special moment that was.”

Tommy agreed with Lorraine and revealed how Chris and Dianne’s song choice made the moment so special. Both Tommy and Chris hail from Liverpool, which is largely associated with the city and football club.

“It really was. To be able to sing our Liverpool national anthem, if you like, on the final, it was one of those special moments. It was quite difficult to sing, at some points. I dared not look up and watch the dance, because it would have got to me. So, my head was down in the music,” he admitted.

Lorraine added: “We were all sobbing at home, so you wouldn’t have been alone!”

Chris, who was Strictly’s first blind contestant, and Dianne lifted the Glitterball trophy after numerous impressive performances throughout the course of series, with the duo frequently improving and being voted through to the next week by the public.

Speaking after his win, Chris gushed over Dianne and said: “It’s astonishing. I don’t know what to say. I honestly thought I could go out in the first week or two. I know nobody could go out in the first week but I still though I could. We’ve just lasted and lasted.

“She has got so much out of me and she deserves this so much. Everyday, she is positivity, she is belief and she is one of the easiest people to be funny with that I’ve ever met.”

Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola, JB Gill and Lauren Oakley, and Tasha Ghouri and Aljaž Škorjanec were the runners-up on the series.

Lorraine airs on weekdays on ITV1 from 9am.
