Speaking on the podcast, Who We Are Now, with former Top Gear personality Richard Hammond and his daughter Izzy, Steve expressed gratitude for having his wife by his side regardless of their childbearing struggles.
Reflecting on the recent years, Steve described the fertility journey as one of the most difficult experiences he has faced. He shared, “Life has presented me with numerous challenges, but this has been one of the toughest. Witnessing Phylicia’s efforts to start a family has been heartbreaking.”
Steve went on to praise his wife for her resilience and strength, emphasizing how fortunate he feels to have her in his life, with or without children. He described her as an extraordinary individual, highlighting her remarkable qualities.
In a previous interview on Lily Allen’s Miss Me? podcast, Steve disclosed the challenges his wife had faced due to endometriosis, a condition she has battled for many years. He revealed that multiple surgeries had impacted their chances of conceiving, referring to Phylicia as a ‘superhero’.
The couple’s love story commenced 11 years ago when they met at a mutual friend’s birthday celebration in America during Steve’s time on X Factor USA. Phylicia later relocated from Los Angeles to the UK to be with Steve, who proposed a year after her move.
Steve previously described his marriage to Phylicia as his proudest achievement, expressing his deep love and admiration for his wife. He chose not to dwell on past relationships with high-profile personalities, emphasizing the happiness and fulfillment he finds in his current marriage.
