Keir Starmer has strongly criticized Tommy Robinson and Elon Musk for inciting violence over the weekend, causing fear among the public nationwide.
The Prime Minister emphasized to the Cabinet the ongoing battle between promoting patriotic unity and harmful divisiveness. Downing Street expressed concerns that a protest orchestrated by a convicted criminal, Robinson, advocating violence on behalf of a foreign billionaire, Musk, could intimidate the public.
During a Unite the Kingdom rally in London organized by Robinson, also known as Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, twenty-six officers were injured, with four sustaining severe injuries, as approximately 150,000 individuals gathered.
Mr. Starmer highlighted the disturbing attacks on police officers and the march led by a criminal during the Cabinet meeting, underscoring the chilling effect it had on many across the country, particularly ethnic minority communities.
A statement from No10 stressed the crucial need for national renewal and unity in the face of escalating division. The PM’s official spokesman reiterated the government’s commitment to free speech, emphasizing the importance of upholding the country’s core values.
Musk, the wealthiest individual globally, issued ominous warnings of impending violence and urged right-wing supporters to prepare for a confrontation or face dire consequences.
When questioned about the PM’s use of the term “fight” following the condemnation of violence, the spokesman clarified that there are individuals aiming to sow discord, leading to intimidation based on ethnicity and background, an issue the government acknowledges and aims to address.
