Safest UK Refuge from Russian Attack: Expert

Must read

A leading security analyst has disclosed the safest location within residences to take refuge in case of a potential attack from Russia, as a close associate of Putin issues a grave warning.

Dmitry Rogozin, a senator and military veteran, previously a deputy prime minister and head of the space agency, has cautioned that numerous British defense-related facilities are at risk, as he identifies over 20 potential targets in the UK.

Recently, Rogozin unveiled a map pinpointing 23 defense sites as part of Russia’s latest threat, encompassing military and industrial locations across the UK’s four nations.

These alarming statements follow ex-British defense secretary Ben Wallace’s call to render Crimea inhospitable from a Russian perspective.

Vladimir Solovyov, a propagandist linked to the Kremlin, stated that Dmitry Rogozin highlighted potential destruction targets in Britain. He added a provocative comment implying consequences for those targeted.

While the likelihood of Russia executing such acts against the UK remains low, the recent threats have sparked concerns among Britons about potential survival strategies.

Dr. Arnab Basu, a nuclear expert and CEO of Kromek Group plc, advised that in the event of a nuclear strike on a UK city, residents might receive advance notice. He emphasized the importance of seeking shelter promptly, preferably in the central part of a building, and sealing windows and doors to prevent radioactive dust infiltration.

Dr. Basu cautioned against hasty evacuations, stressing the importance of remaining indoors for a few days post-attack to shield oneself from fallout and conserve resources until radiation levels decrease.

The International Commission on Radiological Protection recommended seeking shelter in the center of a building or basement during a nuclear blast for maximum protection.

Although London’s underground network historically provided protection during past conflicts, experts suggest that modern nuclear weapons could pose a greater threat, making even deep underground locations vulnerable.

Therefore, staying outside the blast zone in major cities like London or Edinburgh would offer the best chance of survival in case of an attack by nations like Russia.

Various factors, including radiation radius, fireball radius, air blast radius, and thermal radiation radius, determine the impact of nuclear blasts, with weather conditions influencing these distances.

While certain areas outside major cities may offer relative safety, islands like Foula in the Shetland Isles could be the safest haven in the UK due to their remote location.
